I love that grandparents week and book fair are at the same time! Very smart! One suggestion for grandparents week would be to not send grandparents down to classrooms too early! I just had grandparents in my room and we weren't ready!
I loved having my Peter Rabbit play in my classroom. However, note to self, I won't have my play during Grandparents day. That should help the library congestion. I think it was better for 2nd level this year. However, we were limited on times to go to the library due to the length of our plays and lunch. Not having my play will free us up more to get to the library at our specified time! I always enjoy Grandparents day! Oh, also, I loved having our times from 9:30-11:30 so it ends with lunch. Much better!
I am bothered by feeling like we are pressuring the grandparents to buy things at the book fair. I'd like to offer the book fair as an option to them (maybe instead of recess), but not make it a part of the the day's schedule where everyone is forced to attend. Not all grandparents can afford to purchase things for their grandchildren, and that made it awkward for them and upsetting for the child. Plus the message that is being sent to the kiddos is that the visit form their grandparents isn't enough--they have to be given things, too. Just my thoughts.
I agree with this and never meant for it to come off that this was mandatory. Could you all give them the option of coming to the book fair or doing something else? I am open to suggestions!
